Introduction to the Lab (field of research)

This research laboratory of the operating systems and signal analysis to study the medical-based theory to analyze the video and audio signals, are the goal of the studying field. This research laboratory for the medical and engineering study of the fusion of technology with the BIT-based technology research and development of jaetaekhyeong is self-diagnostic devices.

Welcome to the Intelligent Information and Signal Processing Laboratory(IISPL) of the department of Computer Engineering at Hanbat National University. IISPL established in 1997 have turned out many Masters and doctors into the world. It's research focuses on investigating

  • artificial intelligency
  • speech recognition
  • digital signal processing
  • web applications

Research at IISPL is concentrated upon developing the fundamental intelligent algorithms, exploiting novel signal processing theory, exploring advanced web technology, all in an effort to realize the demands of advanced information-technology and industry. IISPL produces a wide range of achievements as indicated by the publications in areas such as artificial intelligence, signal processing, speech recognition, and web application.

It means to focus on developing the algorithms capable of human interaction with intelligent computer by the integration of a multiplicity of interface technologies including speech, images, and web media.

IISPL has undertaken a lot of projects which are to resolve the bottleneck technology of company and to develop new source of technology, and they are sponsored by the companies, the small and medium business administration, the ministry of education and human resources development.

Introduction to the Lab (field of research)

From 2003, our study room carry out study that e-business, nature language process, ontology and semantic web related to intelligent information processing based on web, and a one doctor and five Master are working after graduations to a KAIST, education organization and software company etc., currently one doctor's course and two Master's course are carrying out study.

Specially, this study room, currently, for perfection of Semantic Web to be called to Next Generation Web or Web 2.0, and be concentrating to study regarding inference engine, ontology knowledge representation, development of reasoning rule, ontology learning and evaluation. Result of research, were published in the Advanced Language Processing and Web Information Technology, Korea Information Processing Society, Korea Intelligent Information System Society, Korea Information Management Society, etc.

Beside, this study room is processing an project of Korea Research Foundation and participates to project program development of an organization like ETRI for improves study ability and practical affairs ability of a research student. For high-quality undergraduate manpower training, through deepening education of programming and algorithm, currently achieved a good grade in the final selection of ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest 2007 Asia Regional Contest - Seoul.

Welcome to the Artificial Intelligence & Computer Vision Laboratory (AI&CV Lab.) in the department of Computer Engineering at HNU.
Since 1997, we have studied on artificial intelligence, image processing, pattern recognition and computer vision to give human-like intelligence to the computer system.

Recently our main research subjects are

  • Detection, tracking and recognition of moving objects for security and e-learning.
  • Recognition of the forest fire, characters, the documents, the drawings, the braille and the thermal image etc.
  • Biometrics of finger print, face and thermal image of body.
    We received various kinds of research funds from the companies and state organizations. We have been carried out researches and developed new technologies and put them to practical use. Our Lab. has trained 11 Masters and 1 doctor and published over 100 papers.

Introduction of the field of research in the laboratory

ARTOA is a group that is comprised of the undergraduates and graduate students of the Department of Computer Engineering. We apply knowledge about digital system and make study of the field including hardware and software.

We research the digital design method using VHDL/Verilog(hardware description language) and study about several kind of processor's structure as well as design of peripheral devices. Also, We are studying Embedded S/W field is closely related to hardware in the software field.

Keeping pace with an tendency of semiconductor design, research regarding SOC(system on chip) is recently in progress and we are progressing research especially on modem design for the digital wireless communication(Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, Zigbee etc), a image compression module(JPEG2000, MPEG4, H.264 etc), and the core module design for the USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network). We are possessing various SoC design tools, such as Quartus-II, Synopsis, Mentor, Cadence, SPW etc and measurement equipments.

Besides, we develope system and application programs and device driver programs for Embedded Systems related to industrial products. In our laboratory, we continue industrial research and are promoting activity of work. The Ph,d. candidates, students of Master's course and undergraduate are in cooperation closely and graduates are also giving aid to them with deep affections.

Our Interests-

Design methodologies of ASIC/SoC, Digital communication modules(DMB, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth etc), Encryption/decryption module design(SEED, AES, RSA etc), Compression/decompression module design(JPEG2000, MPEG4, H.264 etc.), Implementation of Embedded System(VOIP system, Image Phone, Network Camera , USN modules, etc)

Recent Participation of the Exhibition and Receiving Prize

We won a encouragement prize in the MPW contest held by KAIST IDEC(education center for semiconductor design), a lot of gold prize and the first prize in the work exhibition held by BK21/NURI agency, the superior treatise price of The Korea Institute of Maritime Information and Communication Sciences. We participate in SoftEXPO exhibition held by the ministry of information communications in the COEX every year and we are trying to improve the feel of work and accumulate experiences and extend our student's knowledge.

Introduction

As the market for high-speed internet and mobile communication services attains maturity, the communications industry has shown a limit of growth based on the quantitative expansion in the number of subscribes. Communication service policy is expected to be a new source for exceeding this limit of growth and expand profits. From this point of view, main study of this laboratory has performed design of mobile terminal(DMB phone, Smart phone), wireless internet applications, protocol engineering services and communication service policy.

Introduction to the Lab (field of research)

21st century is expected to be information society as the successor to industrial society. The central position information technology (IT) has is specific to this kind of society. The information society from IT standpoint is expected to an ubiquitous computing society. Ubiquitous computing is a paradigm shift where technology becomes virtually invisible in our lives. Instead of having a desktop or laptop machine, the technology we use will be embedded in our environment.

To meet the challenge, the Database & Embedded Software Laboratory is concerned with following areas

  • database technology that processes large amount data efficiently, and
  • embedded software technology that is the base of ubiquitous computing.

Introduction to the Mobile Communications Lab. (field of research)

Mobile Communications Laboratory(MCLab.) was founded in 2007. The main research interest is the medium access control(MAC) protocol considering quality of service(QoS) in cellular networks (WCDMA, HSDPA/HSUPA, Wibro), 4th generation(4G) mobile communications networks, wireless LANs, wireless PANs and RFID systems. The research areas are as follows.

  • MAC protocol considering QoS and routing algorithms in wireless mesh networks based on IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs
  • MAC protocol to support voice service in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs
  • Anti-collision algorithms in RFID system
  • MAC protocol considering QoS in IEEE 802.16e Wibro(Mobile WiMAX) system.
  • Energy-efficient MAC protocol in wireless ad-hoc networks
  • Cross-layer design and radio resource management in 4G mobile communications networks
